Indiana Man Exonerated after 24 Year in Prison

David L. Scott spent 24 years in prison for a murder he did not commit.  Yesterday, January 28, 2008, a Vigo County Superior Court Judge released Scott.  Scott, age 39, had been serving a 50 year sentence for the 1984 murder of an 89-year-old woman.  Authorities said that DNA testing that was not available in 1984 cleared Scott.  Prosecutors said that the DNA test results showed that a Kentucky man was the actual murderer.  The Vigo County Prosecutor filed a joint petition with Scott's attorney for his release.  Scott was just 14 months away from his release date.  In the long run, the system failed Scott. He will need the support of family, friends and the community to rebuild his life.  Scott's family was thrilled at his release and relieved that the DNA test had finally proved his innocence.
